I. Building Entrance Issues

 

            A. Main Entrance to 1st floor (East End)

 

Remedy:

 

            1.         Install directional signage to the accessible entrance via Falk. Standards §§  4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.


            B. Secondary Exit

 

Remedy:

 

            1.         Install directional signage to the accessible entrance via Falk. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

II. Accessible Route Issues to Student Spaces


            Interior routes by floor level


            A. Ground Floor

 

There are steps in corridor and between buildings.


            The door hardware (knobs) is not accessible.


            No accessible room signs.

 

A passenger elevator provides access to the ground, 1st and 2nd floors, except for the lower level of the ground floor that contains the Media Center, the Media Classroom, and other offices.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

            2.         Provide raised and braille room signage in accordance with Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.


 

            B. 1ST Floor Classrooms, Offices


            There are steps in the corridors and between buildings.

 

Ramp to 1st floor classrooms and offices is provided via Falk Hall.


            The door hardware (knobs) is not accessible.

 

            No accessible room signs.

 

            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

            2.         Provide raised and braille room signage in accordance with Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.

 

            C. 2nd Floor Classrooms, Offices


            There are steps in corridor and between buildings.


            The door hardware (knobs) is not accessible.


            No accessible room signs.


            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

            2.         Provide raised and braille room signage in accordance with Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.

 

III. Primary Student Space Issues


            A. There are steps in the corridors on all these floors:

 

            Ground Floor Dark Room and other rooms

            Ground Floor Media Classrooms

            1st Floor HUB Offices & Admin Offices

            1st Floor Classrooms

            2nd Floor Offices

            2nd Floor Administrative Offices

 

B. The door hardware (knobs) on all levels is inaccessible.

 

C. There is a pair of 27 ½" doors to the HUB and to another administrative office on the 1st floor.

 

D. The door width of the 2nd floor offices is typically inaccessible.

 

            Remedy:

 

            1.         Provide accessible doors to HUB and other administrative office. Standards §  4.13.5.

 

            2.         Replace knob hardware with accessible hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

IV. Restroom Accessibility


            A. Men’s Restroom (1st Floor)

 

Lavatory is mounted at 34 ¾".

 

            Remedy:

 

            1.         Because the height of the lavatory is not ADA compliant, install a rubber mat 1/2" to ¾" thick with beveled edges on the surface of the finish floor (48" x 48") to allow access to the lavatory and paper towel dispenser. Standards § 4.19.2.


            B. Women’s Restroom (1st Floor)

 

Is fully accessible restroom except for visual alarms. See below.


            C. Men’s Restroom (2nd Floor)

 

Remedy:

 

            1.         Install directional signage to accessible restroom on the 1st floor. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

            D. Women’s Restroom (2nd Floor)

 

Remedy:

 

            1.         Install directional signage to accessible restroom on the 1st floor. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.


V. Miscellaneous Accessibility Issues

 

            Water fountain spout at 2nd floor at 43".

 

No visual alarms in classrooms or women’s restroom on 2nd floor.

 

No visual alarm in women’s restroom on 1st floor.

 

No 12" extensions at step handrails.

 

No raised and brailled signage at room entrances.

 

HUB offices have counter and work surface heights of 41".

 

Passenger elevator at 2nd floor lacks a visual (hall lanterns) and audible signal at hoistway entrance. Also no floor designations at jambs. No raised or brailled floor designations at hoistway entrances.

 

Passenger elevator at ground floor lacks an audible signal at hoistway entrance. Also no floor designations at jambs. No raised or brailled floor designations at hoistway entrances.

 

            Remedy:

 

            1.         Install accessible water fountain at 2nd floor in accordance with ADA standards. In the alternative, install a water cooler with a cup dispenser that is accessible to those who use wheelchairs. Standards §§ 4.15.2, 4.15.3, 4.15.4, 4.15.5.

 

            2.         Install visual fire alarms in classrooms and the women’s restroom on the 1st floor in accordance with the requirement in paragraph 12 of the Agreement. Standards § 4.28.3

 

            3.         Provide 12" extensions at step handrails. Standards § 4.9.4(2).

 

            4.         Provide at least one counter in the HUB that is accessible in accordance with Standards § 4.32.4. In the alternative, provide an auxiliary counter with a maximum height of 36 inches in close proximity to the main counter, or provide equivalent facilitation.

 

            5.         Provide visual and audio signals at hoistway entrance to passenger elevator on 2nd floor and provide raised and braille floor designations at hoistway entrance. Take similar steps for the elevator entrances at other levels where needed. Standards §§ 4.10.4, 4.10.5.

 

            6.         Provide raised and braille signage at room entrances. Standards §§ 4.1.3(16)(a), 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.
