I.         Building Entrance Issues


            Entrance Location

 

            A.        Entrance from Exterior Stairs (stairs from grade level- quad side of building)


            The entrance from the exterior stairs is inaccessible. There is a 3" lip at door, steps.

 

            The maneuvering space is inadequate.

            The maneuvering space is not level.


            The threshold is inaccessible.

 

            There are no directional signs.

 

                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Create a new accessible exterior entrance along the front of Mellon Center on the 1st floor, near the accessible parking space, that will enable wheelchair access to the Anderson Dining Hall. Standards §§ 4.13, 4.14.

 

                        2.         Install a directional sign indicating the location of the accessible entrance. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5

 

            B.        Entrance at Lobby Stairs (stairs from basement lobby)

 

The entrance at the lobby stairs is inaccessible.

 

            There are a pair of 28" doors, steps.


            There are no directional signs.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install a directional sign indicating the location of the accessible entrance. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

            C.        Entrance from First Floor Elevator Lobby in Adjacent Mellon Center


            The entrance from first floor elevator lobby to adjacent Mellon Center is not accessible.

 

The door hardware (knobs) is inaccessible.


            It has a 7" latch side.

 

            The maneuvering space is inadequate.


            There are no directional signs.

 

                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

II.       Accessible Route Issues to Student Spaces


            Interior Routes by Floor Level

 

            A.        Lobby Area


            There are no accessible room signs.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible room signs. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.

 

            B.        Dining Room Exit to Lobby


            The dining room exit to the lobby is inaccessible.


            The door width is inaccessible. There are a pair of 27" doors.


            There are no accessible room signs.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install an automatic door. Standards §§ 4.13, 4.13.12.

 

                        2.         Install accessible room signs. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.


 

            C.        Dining Room Exit Stairs to Exterior (stairs at south end of building)


            The door width is inaccessible.

 

            The exit doors from stairwell at ground level are a pair of 27" doors.


            There are no accessible room signs.

 

                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible room signs. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.


 

III.      Primary Student Space Issues


            Student Spaces

 

            A.        Dining Room Meeting Rooms

 

There are protruding objects (sconce light fixtures) in the dining room meeting rooms.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Replace the sconce light fixtures with accessible fixtures. Standards § 4.4.

 

            B.        International Program Office


            The door hardware (door knobs) is inaccessible.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible lever hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

                        

            C.        Student Affairs Director’s Office


            There is no visual fire alarm at the Student Affairs Director’s Office.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install a visual fire alarm at the Student Affairs Director’s Office in accordance with the requirement in paragraph 12 of the Agreement. Standards § 4.28.3.

 IV.Restroom Accessibility


            Student Restrooms

            

            A.        Lobby Unisex Restroom


            There is no accessible lavatory and the accessible toilet is not accessible.

 

            The lavatory has no wrap on piping.

 

            There is no permanent signage (there is a paper sign taped to face of door).


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install wrap (closed or open foam) on lavatory piping. Standards § 4.19.4.

 

                        2.         Install a permanent accessible room sign. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.


 

V.        Miscellaneous Accessibility Issues


            The lobby water fountain is not accessible. It is mounted 41" above the floor.

             

The sconce light fixtures in “The Pew Room” are mounted 5" out at 74" above floor and they are protruding objects.

 

Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible water fountain in the lobby in accordance with ADA standards. In the alternative, install a water cooler with a cup dispenser that is accessible to those who use wheelchairs. Standards §§ 4.15, 4.1.3(10).

 

                        2.         Screen the area under the sconces with a cane detectable element. Standards § 4.4.
