I.         Building Entrance Issues


            Entrance Location

 

            A.        Main Front Entrance to 1st Floor (West side of building)

 

            There are no directional signs.


            There is no accessible parking space.

 

                        Remedy: 

 

                        1.         Install a directional sign indicating that this entrance is the accessible entrance. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

                        2.         Provide a new van accessible parking space, including an access aisle, and a passenger loading zone with an access aisle that complies with 4.1.2(5)(b) and 4.6.6 of the ADA standards. See also Attachment T, Item 1.

 

            B.        Main Rear Entrance to 1st Floor (East side of building at parking)


                        Main rear entrance to the first floor is not accessible.

 

                        There are no directional signs.

 

The rear entrance porch and side porch are at the same level and have at the front a 2 riser step.

 

At the rear, to the parking lot, there are a set of steps with a total of 16 risers and one intermediate landing.


                        There is no accessible parking space.

 

                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install a directional sign indicating that the accessible entrance is the main front entrance on the West side of the building. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

            C.        Side Porch Entrance Commons Room (North side of building)


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install a directional sign at this entrance indicating that the accessible entrance is the main front entrance at the West side of the building. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.2, 4.30.3, 4.30.5.

 

II.       Accessible Route Issues to Student Spaces

 

Interior Routes by Floor Level

 

            A.        First Floor (Reception and Conference)


            There are no accessible rooms signs.


            The door width is inadequate.


            There are protruding sconce light fixtures in the reception rooms.


            There are a pair of 25 ½" doors and inaccessible door hardware.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible room signs. Standards §§ 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.

                        2.         Place something underneath the protruding sconce light fixtures that makes them cane detectable. Standards § 4.4.

 

                        3.         Leave existing 25 ½" doors open or tear down existing doors and install a door with a minimum clear opening of 32" or an automatic door opener. Standards §§ 4.13, 4.13.5, 4.13.12.

 

                        4.         Install accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

                        

III.      Primary Student Space Issues:

            

            Student Spaces

 

            A.        First Floor Reception and Common Rooms


            There are protruding sconce light fixtures in the reception rooms.


            The door hardware (knobs) is inaccessible.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Place something permanently affixed underneath the protruding sconce light fixtures that makes them cane detectable. Standards §§ 4.4.1, 4.4.2.

 

                        2.         Install accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.


 

            B.        First Floor Conference Room


            The door hardware (knobs) is inaccessible.


            There are no accessible room signs.


                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install accessible door hardware. Standards § 4.13.9.

 

                        2.         Install accessible room signs. Standards § 4.30.1, 4.30.4, 4.30.5, 4.30.6.

                        

 

IV.      Restroom Accessibility

 

            A.        First Floor Unisex Restroom


            The door width (at 30 ½") is inadequate, it offers less than 32" clear passage width.

 

                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install swing clear hinges on door. Standards § 4.13.

 

V.        Miscellaneous Accessibility Issues

 

There are no 12" extensions at the rear steps handrail.

 

The 1st floor protrusions include sconce lighting fixtures in front and rear Common Rooms.

 

The grand stairwell at rear of first floor reception area has no handrail on outside wall at the first, second, and third levels.

 

                        Remedy:

 

                        1.         Install compliant handrails on rear steps. Standards § 4.9.4.

 

                        2.         Place something underneath the sconce lights that makes them cane detectable. Standards § 4.4.

 

                        3.         Install a handrail on the outside wall of the grand stairwell at the first, second, and third levels. Standards § 4.8.5.
